With the Free Roaming Robotics System, KST Moschkau and Blackcam Robotics present the next evolutionary stage in studio technology.
The system is based on an innovative free roaming pedestal that can move completely freely in the room – precisely, safely and without external orientation systems.
Thanks to free roaming pedestals, “conventional” robotic camera systems are gaining a whole new dimension of flexibility.
Flexible creativity: no restrictions on camera movements due to rail systems or fixed cameras
Flexible application: The free roaming system can be used in different studios – all you need to do is reconnect a cable.
Flexible construction: Existing studios do not need to be modified with rails or anchors in the floor. All that is required is a smooth running surface such as vinyl, and you are ready to go. This means that studios remain easy to convert – without any changes to the floor, statics or infrastructure.
At the heart of the system is a high-resolution LiDAR system that scans the entire room in real time.
This creates a precise map of the environment, which the pedestal uses to position itself with millimetre accuracy – regardless of tyre slip or uneven floors.
The result is absolutely precise movements without homing processes and reproducible travel paths at all times.
Another advantage of this technology:
- Integrated VR/camera tracking – as a side effect, the position data is directly available for virtual production workflows.
- Safety function through distance measurement – the system detects obstacles and reacts dynamically to people or objects on the studio stage.
This prevents collisions.
RP-1 – The smart studio base
The RP-1 replaces the classic camera pump with a state-of-the-art, autonomous pedestal with a telescopic lift axis and swivelling camera head. With a load capacity of up to 80 kg, the RP-1 offers sufficient reserves for large studio cameras, teleprompters and lighting systems.
Optionally, you can switch between fully automatic operation and manual operation with a cameraman – maximum flexibility for studio operation.
KST-Elevion – Design meets efficiency
The KST-Elevion combines the proven BlackCam pedestal with the KST-PTZ-Move system. The result is a vertical rail system in an elegant column shape, ideal for modern studio environments – technically powerful and visually discreet.
With a lifting height of up to 4 metres (depending on payload), the system opens up new perspectives while remaining the most cost-effective solution within the free-roaming range.
KST-Mantis – The premier class of robotics
The KST Mantis system is a symbiosis of the KST UR20 robot and the BlackCam pedestal – a high-end system for spectacular, fluid camera movements. Thanks to its freedom of movement within the room, rail systems are no longer necessary. The Mantis system reaches every point in the studio with maximum precision – at significantly lower infrastructure and cost. This creates a whole new level of freedom of movement for creative studio productions.

Seamless integration into CamBot

- 2D studio top-down view – intuitive drag-and-drop control directly on the studio map.
- Optimised CamBot features – all known automation functions have been further developed for the free-roaming concept.
